A few days ago, I was strolling through Barnes and Noble trying to justify potential purchases like The Chemist and Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga. By sheer force of will I bought nothing.
Side note on The Chemist: has anyone read it? I’m not crazy about Stephanie Meyer’s novels, but I am curious to see what she was able to do with adult fiction.
Then, I found something irresistible. I have read several of your blog posts about book box services like OwlCrate. (Since I recently subscribed to Audible, I have held off on a book box subscription.) Well, what I found had the same elements of mystery and intrigue.
For fun, and TOTALLY non-committal, I perused. This is what I found.
Maybe it is because I just finished Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology, which was amazing. Maybe it is because the weird and inexplicable is so irresistible! For whatever reason, I bit. I bought this mystery book with money I probably should have adulted with. (But… books! So it’s okay.)
And this is the book I got!
So far I am at page 80 something, and I would say it was worth the buy! I never would have picked it out on my own, but I enjoy reading and I am wildly curious about where the plot will go. It was a great way to bust me out of my reading bubble and put something fresh in my hands.
The only thing I would change is the front cover blurb… Stephen King, a bit. Neil Gaiman, I can see it. But HOW is Kurt Vonnegut not the very first author this novel reminds you of??
Have any of you done book boxes or blind dates with a book? Send me a link to your post or tell me about it below!
This looks like so much fun! I’d love doing something like this! Glad you were able to find a book you like.

I’ve heard a lot about this! I believe I saw it on Pinterest awhile ago, actually! Looks really fun; I’ve heard a lot of great things about that book, Welcome to Night Vale :)) I’ve never actually done this before, but I’d love to!

I’m glad I did! I also think it would be fun to bind books up and recommend them to others. Maybe in a future blogging endeavor…!
